My Very Own Book!

Many years ago when I was a youngster and just getting started in my career as a Library Dog, the Mom Person and I wrote a story about my job duties. We had a conversation with some of the kids about different jobs that dogs have and what kinds of things were expected of me in my role as Canine Librarian.

At this same time, I started visiting the Life Skills classes at the schools. These are classes for kids with special needs so they can learn at their own pace in their own way. I love visiting these kids! One of my favorites was a high school boy with autism named Paul. He liked to draw pictures of me and play ball.(What more could a girl ask for?!)

He was always drawing something. Draw, draw, draw. One day the Mom Person had the brilliant idea of asking Paul to draw pictures to go with our story! So with the help of his art teacher, Mr Haney, Paul went to work. It took him a long time to finish, but it was fun watching it all take shape.

Then the Mom Person thought it would be fun to somehow publish it all! But she wanted to do it soon, before she lost touch with Paul and while I was still around! ( Dogs don’t live forever, you know!) She didn’t know anything about book publishing, but she found a company called Mill City Press that she liked and set the whole thing in motion — and now the book is here!

We had a book party this weekend to celebrate! Lots of friends and family came!

A great time was had by all!!

Reading With Rhythm, The Tale of a Library Dog, can be found at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. And at our local libraries!!  Thanks for letting me share!

    • Thanks for visiting and for the nice thoughts! We did check out your giveaway but thought that a towel for you would be pretty small for me. I’m glad you found a good product tho. We were going to leave a comment but had computer freeze-ups. We’ll check out that towel on their website. Giveaways are fun!

  2. Great book Janet and Paul! Everyone I share it with LOVES it 🙂 Your book signing party was fun. I can’t wait to get Janet and Rhythm to my school for an author share time with my second grade students. I know lots of kids and teachers who want a copy of your book, and would love to hear you read it in person!

    • Thanks Ms Julie!! Thanks for coming to my party to help me celebrate! And for being such a good cheerleader. :Your the best!!! And we LOVE coming to your school. You always have good kids!

  3. We wish we had a library dog at our library! But only on Wednesdays, because that is our library day. Your book was funny. Especially when you smelled the kids’ feet. We are going to start reading the books on your blog in a center in our classroom. And then we will send you more comments!

    • Every library needs a library dog! Wish y’all weren’t so far away from where I live! I will be looking forward to your comments! Maybe y’all need to do a whole guest post? Book of your choice? Mrs. Kotwitz’s class is awesome!

  4. Congratulations! I am wicked jealous of this, Rhythm. My mom made a book about my work at the Veteran’s Home, but so far, no publishers wanted to buy it. She is sending it out again to try somebody new. When it comes out, I’m pretty sure Mom will take me along with her to school visits. I can’t wait!!

    • This book thing has been a real learning experience for the Mom Person and me. She was kind of in a hurry to get this particular story out because of Paul’s hard work with the illustrations. And she wanted it done while I was still around to enjoy the accolades. And boy! Has our little world gone crazy! My feet are getting tired signing books! The Mom Person says that with all she’s learned from your Mom and the other KidLit folks in the blog world, she’ll do the next project a little differently. But we’re having fun for now. I hope your Mom gets your book published! I would love to read it! And You would love going to school! Thanks for stopping by here!

  5. That is just great! How can I get a signed copy? Are you on facebook where I can send you my email address and snail mail address? 🙂

Congrats! This is great news. In the fall can I get an interview? 🙂
