It was a dark and stormy night. Well, not really. It was a quiet, clear night. The Dad Person who dispenses treats had gone to bed, the Mom Person was on the computer typing away on something, I was asleep on my bed next to the Mom Person’s desk so that I could keep a half eye on her every move. I was having a really nice dream where I was floating down a river full of tennis balls –
Then SUDDENLY — And BLACK!!!! Pitch black.
The Mom person let out a squeal and said “Transformer.”
I didn’t know if that meant that the Transformers were attacking the house or what, so I stayed really still and watched the Mom Person groping around in the dark looking for a flashlight. It was kind of humorous. When she finally found one she went outside to see if the “transformer” was blown to smithereens and to determine if we were in any danger of going up in flames. Evidently not – on either count.
And where was that Dad Person? I went to check – he was still safe and sound and fast asleep.
The Mom Person called the Electric Company and a man came out to check things out. He figured that a snake had gotten up on that electrical pole and shorted out a fuse. So he looked all around for a dead, fried snake. Nope, no snake. So he went to his truck and got a big long pole and stuck it way up in the air and retrieved some kind of thing off of the transformer. He put in a new fuse and went way back up there again with that pole and very carefully put it back in place and SUDDENLY – Man oh Man. And now another transformer across the road was gone! The man said he’d have to try that again! I thought he was crazy, so I went in to go to bed with the Dad Person who was still sound asleep. I thought he was the only one with any sense on this night.
I was just getting into a nice snooze when – SUDDENLY – all the lights were back on! Just like that! I guess that man figured it out. What a night!
Well, today was library day, so we had to check out some books on electricity. I’ve learned more about that shocking subject than I really need to know, I think.
I learned about the history of the discovery and taming of electricity. I learned all about how it gets to our house – from a power plant thru wires into that transformer and then to our house.
Isn’t that amazing?! I also learned from Ms Frizzel and her Magic School Bus about light and how shadows are made. Fascinating!
But that’s enough for today. I’ll tell you about those books next time. For now, I’m going to go take a nap.
I thank Google for providing my graphics for this post.
What would we do without electricity? Something to contemplate —

Love this blog. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure! Thanks for stopping by!
You are welcome. Have a great day! http://www.segmation.wordpress.com
Gah! I’m pretty sure I’m afraid of Transformers. You were smart to put on your headlight and hit the sack with your dad!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
What else to do really?
Sounds like a busy night – for the Mom Person!
Yes, she was SuperMom dealing with exploding transformers and wacky electrical guys. Kept her calm head throughout.
Loved the video…the music was a little depressing, but I think that’s the kind of music they used in movies of that time period. Either that, or they wanted to emphasis how hard it was to live without electricity. I love watching the horses pulling the hay and the hard work they all did without the electricity that we have. I think I’m most thankful for air conditioning… Oh, and loved the part where the little boy is walking through the field with the big sunflower!
I guess it was worth the blow out to learn about electricity and come up with this great post!
I enjoyed that video as well. It’s kind of weird to think about how much of our lives depend on electricity. Like that AC!! And here at our house we have a well with a pump that doesn’t work without electricity. So – no AC, no lights, no water, no computer. It was kind of an eye opening event for me!
What a frightening story. I hope you haven’t got a snake story next. Are dogs scared of snakes?
Well, I could tell you some snake stories!! We have them around but don’t see them very often. We do come across shed skins pretty frequently. They freak me out! Whew! I don’t like getting close to those things!
Shed skins yuck! Nothin like a creepy warning there’s a slitherer on the loose.
Hahaaa! Never trust a human who attempts to fix an electrical problem by blindly poking a pole at the problem in the pitch dark, I say 😀
Right?!!! The Mom Person kept the phone close in case she had to call 911.
Rhythm, you’re supposed to protect your Mom! Sounds like one interesting night. We had the electricity go off a few weeks ago after a transformer was struck by lightening — I love to put out candles. Kind of cozy!
I love my Mom Person, but I wasn’t going out there with those sparks flying! She had things completely under control. From afar. Kind of.
Finally the transformers make a cameo on a fine blog! Good stuff…I found the video sinister.
You may say that, but those exploding transformers are a scary thing in your very own backyard! I’ve read those books and I know what they are capable of! I liked that video because it IS sinister. It fit with my whole night!
Wait. You guys each have a personal Transformer robot/vehicle in Glen Rose? WOW!!! I MUST go there! 😀
Oh! You wish! I think there are some little ones in the closet that we could play with if you want to come by sometime.
HEY!!! I have little ones in MY closet too! WOW! 😀
So adorable! :-)♥♥
I don’t know about adorable Ms Dina. Pretty exciting though!
