BRRRRR! Winter has more or less come to Texas and we just read a book about it’s arrival. The book is When Winter Comes written by Nancy Van Laan and illustrated by Susan Gaber. It was published in 2000 by Atheneum Books for Young Readers and is suitable for ages 2 and up. It’s a beautiful, JOYful book full of questions about where things go when winter comes.
From the jacket flap — “What happens to fish, flowers, field mice, and other living things when ponds freeze and the air turns blustery? Walk with a curious child and his parents as winter’s first snow falls and find out …….”
And the 1st page — “Where oh where do the leaves all go when winter comes and the cold winds blow?”
The questions and answers are done in easy rhymes and the illustrations are soft and joyous. You can feel the winter chill!
I really like this book. And I think that kids will like it too. A nice, thoughtful lead – in to winter.
Blustery!! I like that word!
2 read and 298 more to go!
